Racing against time...

Early April: a race against time to have pots ready for the Art & Craft Fair in Dorking.

Late April: a similar last-minute dash before the Rusper May Day event.

The schedule goes like this:

Day 1 Throwing and handbuilding

Day 2 Turning and applying slip

Day 3 Decorating (sgraffito and more slip)

Day 4 Drying

Day 5 Biscuit firing in the electric kiln

Day 6 Wait for the kiln to cool down

Day 7 Sponge on oxides if using. Glaze the pots.

Day 8 Load and fire the gas kiln

Day 9 Check pots for rough edges and pack ready for sale!

Here you can see the glazed jugs, planters and cane-toppers loaded in the gas kiln ready to be reduction-fired to 1280º

which takes about 9 hours.

Several weeks ago I started thinking about this weekend and planning a few Father's Day items for Fetcham Village Day and Reigate Crafters......

Today I have just started the gas kiln for the final firing - with two days to go!

Watch this space for some results ... or come along to

Fetcham Village Day on Saturday or Reigate Crafters on Sunday!
